Tsuneda Laboratory was born in April 1996 in Department of Chemical Engineering. Then, in April 2007, with the reorganization of our faculty, we moved to Department of Life Science and Medical Bioscience with the mission of promoting the integration of science/engineering and medicine.
In addition, in April 2008, our lab was relocated to the newly established Center for Advanced Biomedical Sciences in the vicinity of Tokyo Women's Medical University (aka TWIns).
We have conducted various research studies on bacteria. A wide variety of bacteria exist in nature, contributing to elemental cycles on Earth, purifying soil and water environments, and enhancing agricultural soil fertility.
At the same time, we must not forget that pathogenic bacteria exist which threaten the lives of humans and animals. We are currently focusing on isolating uncultured bacteria present in the environment to elucidate their physiology and ecology, as well as developing bacterial infection treatment technologies using bacteriophages (phage therapy).
Our research themes span a broad range, from developing functional analysis methods to elucidating molecular mechanisms and advancing applied technologies, aiming to contribute to the fields of medicine, health, food, and environment.
